On August 9th, 2023, four ITEC members were honored by the Mintz Family Foundation. The Foundation is in memory of Edith Cohen Mintz and her daughter Mara Kinston, awarding scholarships to outstanding young female players at the beginning of their tennis journeys.

Edith Cohen Mintz was a pioneer of Israeli women’s tennis. Prior to immigrating to Israel, she was a Latvian tennis champion and participated in the Maccabiah Games in the 1930s. In Israel, she was champion three times in 1952, 1954, and 1955.

Edith’s impressive career did not stop there, after her retirement from competitive tennis, she began teaching tennis voluntarily in schools nationwide. She remembered bringing used rackets and balls to the schools that she had collected to ensure the kids had the gear they need to play. Her daughter, Mara, followed in her footsteps becoming a professional tennis player and afterwards a tennis coach.

The ITEC students who received scholarships were Avigail Rozanski from ITEC Ramat Hasharon and Lior Genkin from ITEC Arad. Two tennis coaches were also acknowledged, Lior Dahan, Avigail’s coach, and Niv Nachimovitz, Lior’s coach.
