Israel Tennis & Education Centers Foundation (ITEC) student team is coming to Atlanta as part of its US Summer exhibition tour of the East Coast. The exhibition will be held on Sunday, June 10th at Dunwoody Country Club, 1600 Dunwoody Club Drive, Dunwoody, GA 30350, from 9:30 to 11:30AM.
“This will be the ITEC’s third time in Atlanta,” states Jacqueline Glodstein, Executive Vice President of Global Development. “and no one on this particular team has been here before. It’s wonderful for these Israeli Youth Ambassadors to experience the unique culture of this modern Southern city.”
The team includes a diverse group of Israeli junior tennis players and their coach representing various Israel Tennis & Education Centers. During their US appearances, in addition to playing tennis, they will share their personal stories about what the ITEC has meant to them, their families and the communities in which they live.
Today in Israel, over 1/3 of the children live below or near the poverty line.
For these children, and 20,000 others every year, the ITEC is a safe and nurturing environment where they learn vital life skills and values through the sport of tennis. On any given day, ITEC provides a supportive community that fosters physical and mental well-being as well tutoring and healthy meals.
It’s wonderful for these Israeli Youth Ambassadors to experience the unique culture of this modern Southern city.”
The focus of ITEC is on changing children’s lives every day, so they can become better human beings. Through its social impact programs, a wide range of children are served, including youth at risk; immigrants from countries around the globe like Ethiopia and Russia; Children with special needs, from autism and ADHD to Down Syndrome, as well as those with developmental and physical disabilities. The ITEC also recognizes the ability of tennis to bring together children from different religions as seen in its highly successful Coexistence Program.
“When we opened our first center in 1976, no one could have dreamed how much our work has transformed the lives of so many Israeli children, preparing them for life” said ITEC Founder Bill Lippy. “And to see how the organization has grown from a single center to 14 locations, strategically built in underprivileged communities throughout Israel, is gratifying beyond belief.”
For over 40 years, Israel Tennis & Education Centers Foundation, has been dedicated to helping Israeli children of all backgrounds to coexist in a safe environment while learning invaluable life skills through the sport of tennis. The goal has always been to positively impact the young people in Israel and create lasting peace in one of the most turbulent areas in the world. “Through the skills learned on the court, we teach our children inclusiveness, unity, respect, diversity and caring,” states Jacqueline Glodstein, Executive Vice President of Global Development. “We believe that this will set them on the path to a brighter and more successful future.”
By the time the team hits Atlanta, they will have been in the US since Wednesday, May 30th, when they arrived in New York from Tel Aviv. The tour is wrapping up in Atlanta after exhibiting in around the NY Metro area, making stops in the Bronx, Westchester and northern New Jersey.
The Atlanta exhibition takes place on Sunday, June 10th at Dunwoody Country Club, beginning at 9:30AM.
“We are thrilled to provide our children with this tremendous growth opportunity, to travel to the US, play in these great tennis communities and serve as ambassadors for Israel abroad,” states Joyce Pernin, President, Israel Tennis & Education Centers Foundation. “It is phenomenal to witness these children learning so much by having this unique experience to meet some of the wonderful people who support them. Children from the US benefit as well by connecting with and getting to know Israelis their own age, from different cultures and developing friendships.”
